Learning to coupon?

Part 1: Getting Started!

Here is a few things you can start to do now to prepare for your next shopping trip!

Lets get started with coupons!

  1. Write down your grocery list. I like to make a meal plan . My meal plans I usually make for a 1/2 a month. So when I buy groceries I buy larger quantities which are cheaper. By making a meal plan even if you don't shop for a half a month at a time it makes your next grocery list easier.
  2. Familiarize yourself with Common Abbreviations
  3. Order a newspaper subscription for the Sunday paper. You will get lots of coupons this way and you don’t have to use all your ink printing online coupons. Subscriptions are usually cheaper than just paying for one you pick up at a store or a stand each week.
  4. Print coupons for products that are on your list: Click here to view Printable coupons.
  5. Plan to purchase a binder or storage system for your coupons.  A good first step is a envelope.
  6. Save next weeks grocery ads for your grocery store and/or  Drug store of choice.  Start by doing one ad.  You can add other stores later.
  7. Make a list of things you buy and your favorite products. This will help you to know which items you buy all the time and how often you go though them for planning purposes. You can also start gathering more coupons so you always have one for you next purchase of these products.
  8. Is your Grocery store higher priced? Some grocery stores are cheaper than others so your over all cost will be higher at some stores without coupons.  A simple change of store may save you lots of money.
Here is my list of stores based on what I buy.
Higher priced stores: Genuardi's, ShopRite, Walgreens
Medium priced stores: Acme, Weis, Rite-Aid, Target
Lower priced stores: Giant, Bottom Dollar, CVS, Walmart, Aldi
